When We Met is a new wave, indie rock duo based in Portland, Oregon. Their sound has been compared to 90’s alt / indie rock and early 80’s new wave. Ranging from grungy greats such as Sonic Youth to alt weirdos like Ween. Creating diversity in their music by trading off on leads vocals in the style of Blonde Redhead and X, experimenting in different genres and having unique layers of sound. When We Met brings unstoppable chemistry with an energetic and engaging performance!
Bryan Casey and Melissa Dorres are NW Natives, both born in Portland, Oregon, though they did not meet until 2010. On different paths at that time, When We Met did not form until 2014, releasing their first EP, WWM with a premier performance at Dante’s in downtown Portland, performing live for the first time in a long time for Bryan and first time ever for Melissa. Since then, When We Met has released a live CD, a full studio album and played over 100 live shows including local gigs, tours and festivals. (detailed list below of adventures)
In 2017 they released their first Official music video, “Ride The Tide” with the assistance of cartoonist Zachary Whitmore, who also created a killer video for “It’s Too Late”. “Ride The Tide” is a global hit on amazon prime, even having subtitles in German and Japanese! Another video is in the works…
When We Met has been a guest at KPSU twice, Portland’s college radio station performing full live sets, appearances also on Portland Radio Project, Freeform Portland and soon their Television debut on KGW8! Other accomplishments such as “Things We Talked About” being played at halftime at Portland Trailblazer Game and “Exist” making it on the Local Roots music compilation Vol 4 have been awesome moments!
Now in 2018, When We Met will be going on their fourth and most epic tour to date: 7 states, 16 shows! Upon their return When We Met will be working on new music as well as a journey to Nashville for a glimpse into that rich music scene… The adventures are far from over!
