Grey Fiction, Strange Familia, Salvo Idly

Sunday June 18, 2017 @ 9:00 pm - 11:30 pm

$5 - $7

Grey Fiction: PDX’s young alternative rock band Grey Fiction has crafted a sound of heartache, power, and urgency that captures “an indie contemporary vibe” (Chelsi Archibald, Indie Ogden). They strive to create thoughtful music deeply rooted in empathy and emotion, equal parts headphone escapism and cultural mirror.

Strange Familia was started by Brecken Jones and Garret Williams. Established November 2014 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the band is Influenced by the life and art of the 20th and 21st century. Reminiscent of artists like Nick Murphy (Chet Faker) and Jack Garrat, their first single “Odes” became a viral hit, entering the Viral Top 50 Song charts on both Billboard and Spotify. Their eleven song debut studio album was written, produced, and recorded themselves, and mixed by Scott Wiley (Neon Trees, The Moth & The Flame, Fictionist).

Salvo Idly: To Salvo Idly is an oxymoron. The word salvo means “a sudden burst” and opposites the word idly, meaning “leisurely.” The output of Salvo Idly can sound like a debate between epic payoffs and near-classical melodies, for a haunting and energetic sound that one would be tempted to call pop, were it not so unique. While it is the complexities of the music that draw your attention, it is the lyrics that hold it. Modulations, quick ascents, and quicker descents become a trademark of the Portland trio. In Salvo Idly melodies glide beneath introspective and existential prose, which, occasionally drops out completely letting only the music speak.
