Ali Burress, The Duke of Norfolk, Hanna Haas

Ali Burress wrote, recorded, mixed, and played every note of her most recent three releases. She concocts bewitching songs thrumming with the power of nature, intuition, and the bliss and sorrow of relationships. After picking up a guitar and writing her first song at age fourteen, Ali quickly became passionate about audio recording, converting her bedroom closet into a cozy recording nook. Ali describes her creative process as finding “homes” within her songs—somewhere she can retreat in order to make sense of all of life’s chaos. Inspired by the desert landscape of Joshua Tree and the dense forests of Oregon, Ali writes songs as a reminder that, like these beautiful places, music is a place where she feels a sense of belonging.

The Duke of Norfolk (Adam Howard) is a peripatetic folk musician from Oklahoma. Having grown up in bluegrass territory and later studied Sound Design at the University of Edinburgh, his music nestles somewhere between traditional folk instrumentation and more modern electronic folk. His writing often reflects the conflict between the fantastic / idealistic world of books & dreams and the reality of the ordinary.

Hanna Haas is a folk singer-songwriter who recently migrated to Portland from Sonoma County, California, and her soothing guitar and soft vocals powerfully draw the listener in. Hanna’s songs recall change, reminisce on the deaths of loved ones, relationships lost, “platform-moving towns”, while at the same time remember what is constant, such as the beating of our hearts and the mystery that perhaps never dies. Hanna’s songs speak to the constant rising and falling of life and the eternal beauty of it all.
