NW Post Rock Collective Showcase

Sol: Formed in 2013 in Portland, Oregon, Sól is a 5-piece post-metal band that explores the beauty and fear of the natural world. Comprised of brooding heaviness and atmospheric calm, their sound reflects the dense and expansive landscape of the Pacific Northwest. With their debut 2014 release, “Black Mountain”, Sól established a sound for themselves that highlighted dynamic qualities of soft clean post-rock sections with loud depressing chord progressions in a single package. Their new album “Upheaval” continues to accentuate and expand these dynamic qualities by incorporating influences from ambient music and extreme metal. Each song provides a stark contrast of soft beautiful passages and crushing metal riffs, with elements of hardcore, black metal, and sludge. Lyrically, “Upheaval” examines our disconnection from one another, and from the world in which we reside. It was recorded at Toadhouse Studios with Adam Pike and mastered by Magnus Lindberg Productions.

A Collective Subconscious (ACS) is an instrumental, cerebral rock band from Portland, Oregon that formed in the winter of 2012.
Having been compared to musical acts such as Mogwai, Godspeed You Black Emperor!, Jakob, Tool, and Isis, A Collective Subconscious bring their own unique style of vast, atmospheric, heavy, and melodic instrumental rock.

Pulse Emitter: A classically trained musician, Pulse Emitter (the project of Daryl Groetsch) began experimenting with electronic music in the late 1990’s, just before moving to Portland, Oregon. Groetsch went from building his modular synthesizer and creating noisy dronescapes to incorporating melodic, sequencer driven arrangements with layered vintage synthesizers, to implementing acoustic world instruments and software synthesis. These shifts in process and instrumentation are emblematic of Pulse Emitter’s progression as a project, discovering new ways to develop expansive tapestries of sound.
Pulse Emitter has released albums on acclaimed labels such as Constellation Tatsu, Aguirre, Beer On The Rug, Root Strata, NNA, and Ultra Eczema, and has toured dates and festivals in Europe and North America. Music critic David Keenan has said, “No one is making synth music that feels so organic, so rapturous and so ‘in tune’ with the contours of outer and inner space as Groetsch.”
